Marshland of Cities: Lagash and its Neighbors ca. 2500 BCE
Howard C. and Elizabeth Watts Petersen Annual Lecture
The earliest cities in the world arose in a dynamic wetland environment at the intersection of the Tigris-Euphrates delta and the shore of the Persian Gulf during the 4th- and 3rd-millennia BCE. Recent work at the site of Lagash, led by the Penn Museum, in collaboration with the University of Pisa and Cambridge University, focuses on reconstructing the ancient environment of southern Iraq through remote sensing, geological coring, and excavation. This illustrated lecture will bring this formative chapter of human history to life through an overview of this work to date, including geological, ethnographic, and archaeological evidence.
Speakers: Holly Pittman, Bok Family Professor in the Humanities; Professor, History of Art; Director, Lagash Archaeological Project and Curator, Near East Section, Penn Museum and Reed C Goodman, Ph.D. Candidate in the Art and Archaeology of the Mediterranean World.

Over two thousand years before Cahokia’s construction, Native people in Louisiana built Poverty Point, ...

Its two gigantic buildings, the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, were surrounded by smaller temples, plazas, and a thousand or...

Given that Pleiades (the 7 sisters) is 75,000 years old, and that Orion, the big dipper and the plow are part of the Cosmic Hunt and dates back to at least 40,000 years... No. The earliest constellations of the zodiac do not from the middle east. Zodiacs and constellations existed before.

I thought I was a history major in college, even took two whole classes about the silk road alone. Anyway, a decade later and much more internet research and many more books into it, I've got to say without a doubt the entire narrative of 99.9% of all history, at least that of which we are told in Western society, is completely and utterly wrong, not just a little bit wrong, I mean like paradigm shatteringly wrong. If you were to ask me to explain that, I would probably stutter for about 15 minutes just deciding where to even start and whether to go backwards or forwards. I'd be better off at giving you a long and detailed source list, but not just sources also clues and hints that would direct you to unlikely sources. If you want something takes off the top of my head that's the most interesting if you're not a deep diver, look up all the explanations for every Capitol building in America, try to find construction photos, and look at what they're made out of in the intricacy compared to the level of technology we are believed to have had at that time. After you've done that, look around the world and try to come up with an explanation as to why every continent (well, Antarctica has yet to be proven here) but why are there these Greco-Roman type buildings in every continent on the planet including China up until about the early 20th century when a lot of them started getting repurposed, torn down or just outright blown up in some war. Take a look at all the cathedrals around the world, look at all the Muslim mosque, start looking deep into Peru and even Australia and you find without a doubt and inexplicably architecture all based in the same types of constructions and stylings all in a time when horse and buggies or maybe in some cases you had some steam trains or hot air balloons here and there, all built before highway systems, internet, even gasoline being a thing, all before trucking during a time when we are tall everyone is scattered about and unconnected. And for giggles, go try to figure out what in the world tartaria or Grand tartery really is. And I don't mean look at the standard definition of it being lands in Asia that Christians and Europeans didn't know or understand yet, actually read some really old books that mention it and talk about going there and give accounts about it and then ask yourself once more, is our technological progress really what we are told? Did anyone else know that there were ultra low frequency acoustic weapons all the way back in world war I that caused the landslides and flooded trenches? Did anyone know that microwave weapons were being produced during world war II before there was even a microwave oven in anyone's house? This is getting long, I could go on forever and this is just free flowing off the top of my head, not like I'm submitting a paper here or anything, but with any hope one day I actually will.

This seems like you took slides from a 1971 slide show presentation. If you update it, the video will be more useful for educators and students.

To futher enhance this magical effect you're going to have to move the microphone further away from the speaker. Sorry to report that I could actually hear some of that. No complete sentences of course, just the odd word here and there.

There is nothing in the archeological record in Imhotep's time for his being an architect. In the inscription on Djoser's statue, he is referred to as overseer of sculptors. He was indeed a priest (great of seers) and a royal councillor. However, there is nothing from Imhotep's time to support his being credited as an author or physician. These were ascribed to him thousands of years later.

So what exactly she basing her assertation of two males on? No I am not a homophobe. I'm simply pointing out that by her criteria and without more information it makes no sense to assume SK336 was male. I'd also point out that the body language is indicative of a female lying with a male.

I was really excited to find an authoritative video on Teotihuacan. The scene is set: we view a stage with a large screen from behind an anticipative, though admittedly sparse, crowd. The host introduces Dr. Simon Martin with a lengthy list of his qualifications and experience of the topic. I think to myself, "This is going to be good!" However, after a minute or two of watching the good Dr. chatting amiably from stage left and with the view on my monitor screen remaining stubbornly static, it dawns on me that, tragically, this viewpoint isn't going to change. As others here have commented: what a waste of screen real estate. If someone is describing a slide doesn't it make sense that viewers should be able to make out the image? The audience is in the auditorium; their focus of attention is the screen. People viewing this on a monitor or TV screen or worse, a tablet or phone screen, are being forced to screw up their eyes to make out any detail in a very limited area when they should be being presented with close-ups of the visual specifics being talked about. There are so many points for discussion here in relation to failure to engage a wider audience that I don't know where to begin. One might have expected that such a prestigious university would hire people who know what they're doing when providing online content. You have the informational and visual resources available here to engage the maximum number of people, yet with this format many potential viewers will move on the moment they realise you lumbered them with this limited perspective. After all, isn't a picture worth a thousand words?
